About Paul

My name is Paul Shaw, and I have been married for 37 years to my wife, Anne. We have two grown up sons Robert who is living in Sydney and Andrew. Robert works for MLC School in Sydney developing their Learning Management Environment, while Andrew is attending the police academy.

I was born in England and moved to Brisbane with my family in 1964. I was educated in the state education system and have spent most of my working career as a teacher in the state system. In 1998 I was appointed as an Education Adviser at Bayside District Office, and in 2001 I was appointed as the Learning and Development Coordinator at Bayside Learning and Development Centre for ICT. In 2003, I moved to Brisbane Catholic Education where I supported teachers to embed ICLT across P-12 schools in the Archdiocese of Brisbane.

I was selected as one on the original Apple Distinguished Educators in 2000 and as part of this award presented a poster session at NECC in Chicago 2001 and attended the 10th anniversary Camp Apple at Monterey in 2004.

I have presented at international conferences in New Zealand, America and Singapore which feature practical advice for teachers of how to take advantage of digital learning.

I have always had an interest in using technology and made my first animated film using stop frame animation while at teachers college. This is was the first time anyone had ever regarded me as being creative. I have spent the past ten years reengaging teachers with technology and have often used digital storytelling as an approach to this process.

Technology can allow our teachers to make learning much more rich, real and relevant. I believe we must support teachers to leverage this advantage.

I have been very successful working with teachers as I take the approach of adding value to the work they are doing. The range of professional learning opportunities I provide support teachers to understand how working digitally can assist them with their core business of literacy and numeracy.  I more than 30 years experience in education and over 12 years experience working with teachers to help to leverages the advantages that technology provide.
